Latest project is window sills

After the new window salesman never bothered to return with a quote we decided to look at the state of the windows frames and sills. After a bit of paint stripping with paint stripper from Wickes the wood can now be inspected and was found to be in not too bad condition. So the next task is to fill in the cracks prior to application of primer.

We sort of love Toolstation

We’ve just come across the ad for Toolstation.

Although we are great fans of Toolstation we don’t love it as much as we did since the returns policy changed. Instead of getting a year to return unused items Toolstation now offer a pathetic 30 days which means we have been buying a lot stuff more stuff from Wickes.

Pallet shed and leaks

When  people discover that the shed has been made from pallets they immediately infer it will be full of holes. There are some good examples of this here http://summerville-novascotia.com/PalletWoodShed/.

Waterproofing the shed

Waterproofing the shed

However we wanted the shed to have some sort of water resistance and not be open to the weather.   Your average shed uses ship lap wood to prevent water getting through between the planks. This wasn’t really a practical option as the work involved in routing would have been too great so instead we choose to build an inner lining and fit water proof sheeting between the two. We could have gone further and filled insulation beteen but again that seemed a little over the top for what is after all just a shed.

DIY in Wimbledon

DIY in Wimbledon has suffered another loss recently. The local B&Q store at Alexandra Road has now closed. This follows the closure of the store on Western Road, Colliers Wood some time back. However, the new B&Q warehouse is now open at Shannon Commercial Centre, Beverley Way, New Malden. On our first visit we were very impressed but felt that the car park was a bit on the small side.
The Colliers Wood store has now reopen as Smyths Toys store.
